The ‘Waterfall Sanatorium’ opened in April 1909 as New South Wales’ first purpose-built Hospital for Consumptives, in an elevated site chosen for its quietness and isolation from the general community.
I’m pressed to find much information on Kuwashima Hospital. I know it closed at least seventeen years ago but given the difficulty of research here, I thought, this time, I’d focus on my experience.
Callan Park is a heritage-listed former insane asylum located in Rozelle, part of Sydney’s Inner West. The main body of the Callan Park Mental Hospital is the Kirkbride Complex. The asylum was designed in 1877
by James Barnet, Colonial Architect, in collaboration with Frederick Norton Manning, Inspector of the Insane.
Queen Victoria Sanitorium
Queen Victoria Sanitorium was built as a retreat for Sir Kelso King around 1890 in Wentworth Falls on the Kings Tableland. This part of the grounds remains on the site today.
