Newington Armory Gun Powder Magazine was established in 1897 as a gunpowder magazine, the site was originally operated by the NSW Military Forces. It was later operated by the Australian Navy and was known as the Royal Australian Navy Armament Depot Newington.
Callan Park is a heritage-listed former insane asylum located in Rozelle, part of Sydney’s Inner West. The main body of the Callan Park Mental Hospital is the Kirkbride Complex. The asylum was designed in 1877 by James Barnet, Colonial Architect, in collaboration with Frederick Norton Manning, Inspector of the Insane.
The ‘Waterfall Sanatorium’ opened in April 1909 as New South Wales’ first purpose-built Hospital for Consumptives, in an elevated site chosen for its quietness and isolation from the general community.
