1510 Balmain Leagues Club
Balmain Leagues Club
Balamin Leagues Club has become a sorry sight on the Sydney Inner West landscape. Especially if you’re a Tigers supporter. The site was originally built in 1957 and operated until closed it closed its doors in 2010.
It’s amazing to see the state that Balmain Leagues Club has become in only seven short years.

Balmain Leagues Club has been proposed for a redevelopment since 2004 and has had several development proposals rejected by Leichhardt Council & the planning assessment commission.
The original proposal which was rejected was to build two towers of 26 and 32 storeys the site, but then an amended proposal was submitted in 2013 which reduced the building heights to 25 and 20 storeys.
The latest proposal at the time of writing is for a 12 and eight storey tower.
Leichhardt council wants to rezone the area so only 6 and eight storeys can be built, so, looks as there is no end in sight for the future of the building.
As I was leaving, I noticed someone walking on the footpath outside the building stop to look in the car park in amazement. He then pulled out his smartphone and started taking pictures of the car park through the fence.
It’s easy to catch the bug.
