Shimizusawa Thermal Power Plant
Originally owned and operated by Hokutan, Hokkaido Colliery & Steamship Co, Shimizusawa Thermal Power Plant was built in 1926 and served as a power supply to the many surrounding coal mines in Shimizusawa and Yubari, producing 6000KW of energy output.
The ATL Building was originally the home of Automatic Totalisers Limited.
The company produced calculation machines used for ticket printing and issuing, sales recording in department stores and racecourse totaliser practice.
Abandoned Shoe Factory
Unfortunately, I can’t really offer much in the way of the history of this Abandoned Shoe Factory. I shot this site in 2011, not long after I began photographing abandoned buildings.
Seika Dormitory was constructed in the middle of Tokyo in 1927 to house predominantly Taiwanese students studying at the nearby Takushoku University.
The O-I Glass site was originally built around 1880, and part of the plant is still in operation today producing glass bottles.
