Sunlight illuminates the rear room at Woolla. Flaking paint covers the walls. A discarded chair rests in the corner. Dust settles thick on the floorboards.

About this print
A narrow room built from rough-sawn timber and lined with deteriorating plaster. Sheets of it curl off the walls and litter the dark hardwood floor. Blue steel lockers sit against the back wall, their doors open or missing. A calendar hangs to the left, its colour print still legible. Thin blades of daylight cut through gaps in the weatherboard cladding. The ceiling is corrugated iron, sagging between exposed joists. The air looks thick with dust and damp.

The series
Woolla
Woolla is a property on the Deua River near Braidwood in southern New South Wales. The slab huts under a single large tree were built and inhabited by the Davis family across four generations from 1910 to 1990. The family held freehold title to the property continuously through 2004.
