From the field notes
Concrete steps rise from a debris-covered basement floor toward a narrow doorway. A steel handrail, still bolted in place, curves along the staircase. Every surface carries graffiti. Layers of aerosol colour cover the cinder block walls from floor to ceiling. A large painted cat figure dominates the left wall. Spray cans litter the ground beside crumpled paper and broken ceiling panels. Pale light enters through high windows, thick with paint and grime.
