About this print
A long workbench sits against the stained brick wall, its laminate top worn through years of use, tools still resting on the surface as though a shift just ended. The lower cabinet stands open and empty, one door detached and leaning against the side. Faded paper documents remain pinned to the wall behind it. The former Davies Coop / Bradmill factory, Yarraville, ceased textile operations around 2001 and was vacated around 2007, leaving spaces like this one largely intact.
Brett Patman
The series
Bradmill Denim
The Bradford family founded Bradford Cotton Mills in Sydney in 1927. The company expanded into Victoria in 1940, began producing denim in 1945, and grew into Bradmill Industries Ltd. The Yarraville factory on Francis Street was the country's only indigo denim mill.
