The Chittaway Motel photographed at night for Hotel Motel 101. An outdoor pool sits empty in the frame. Brett Patman documented 101 traditional NSW roadside motor inns in 2018 across three routes from Sydney, shooting late at night to capture them without people.

About this print
Two storeys of cream brick face the empty car park. Grey steel doors sit closed on both levels, numbered but unlit behind their windows. A metal staircase climbs the right side, its handrail catching the flood light. Dark green trim runs along the roofline where twin gable ends meet. Strip planting lines the ground floor. A faded blue accessibility symbol marks the concrete below. No cars. No movement. Just the flat hum of security lights against a black sky.

The series
Hotel Motel 101
Hotel Motel 101 is a series of one hundred and one motels photographed in 2018 across three runs out of Sydney. North to the Central Coast, west through the Blue Mountains to the central western tablelands, south down the NSW South Coast. The count crept up from a planned seventy toward the round number, plus one for safety.
