A weathered "Give Way" sign stands beside a dusty track. Dry, straw-coloured grass stretches towards a vast, empty sky, marking forgotten routes through the Australian interior.

04 FROM THE FIELD NOTES

A galvanised steel post rises from long grass on a bare hillside. The Give Way sign is clean, its red border and white face sharp against a sky heavy with grey storm cloud. Dry seed heads lean through the grass at the base of the pole. The land rolls upward behind the sign, treeless, green fading to brown. No road is visible. No intersection. No other structure.
