04 FROM THE FIELD NOTES

A single lane of asphalt cuts through open grazing country, snaking down into a valley before climbing the far ridge. Dry yellow grass covers the hillsides. A curve warning sign sits low in the foreground, bright yellow against brown earth. Guide posts line the shoulder. Three wind turbines stand on the distant ridgeline, blades turning against a pale, overcast sky. Scattered trees mark old fence lines and creek beds between paddocks.
