Yellow diamond warning signs mark a sharp S-curve on The Snowy River Way, near Bombala in the Monaro region of New South Wales. The asphalt bends left through dry grassland before straightening toward the horizon. Three wind turbines stand at distance against a pale sky, thin white verticals above the rolling hills. They are part of the Boco Rock Wind Farm, which spreads across these Monaro ridges between Nimmitabel and Bombala.

04 FROM THE FIELD NOTES

A single lane of asphalt cuts through open grazing country, snaking down into a valley before climbing the far ridge. Dry yellow grass covers the hillsides. A curve warning sign sits low in the foreground, bright yellow against brown earth. Guide posts line the shoulder. Three wind turbines stand on the distant ridgeline, blades turning against a pale, overcast sky. Scattered trees mark old fence lines and creek beds between paddocks.
