The lower section of the White Bay Power Station Control Room panel is lined with rows of heavy-duty switches, each once used to manage the flow of power across Sydney’s rail and tram network.
Several of these switches still bear faded danger tags and lockouts, safety measures meant to prevent operators from mistakenly re-energizing circuits that posed a hazard. The bold warnings remain in place long after the power that once made them necessary has vanished.
Among the switches, a red lockout device sits unused, a relic of the strict protocols that governed this control room. The worn documents scattered nearby hint at the last operational days of the station, now frozen in time, untouched and undisturbed.
