This is the audio companion to my ABC Central West feature with Kia Handley. I was not in the studio. I was on the phone, sitting under a tree in a park in Mt Druitt, on my lunch break from the day job I had at the time.
Whatever I tried to do in the introduction of this interview, I don't know what it was. Nerves, I think.
The interview ran sixteen minutes. That stretch of early 2016 was a strange period for Lost Collective: at one point I had a dozen open media requests in a single month, while still working full-time at the day job that paid for the camera gear. Sixteen minutes is not enough time to say everything you want about a project that's only just started. I think I got reasonably close.
"Broken windows, rusting equipment, large spaces. You can see what might be romantic about an abandoned space. Pair that with a photographer and a little bit of history and you have Lost Collective."
