Yard Facing Southeast

Blayney, New South Wales, Australia · Photographed in Blayney, 2016

The concrete yard of Blayney Abattoir lies empty, facing southeast. Its weathered surface shows years of exposure. Rusting metal structures stand silently, remnants of a forgotten industrial past.

About this print

On the left, the old store and by-products building once kept the site stocked, while behind the camera stood the smoke shed, where workers took short breaks between demanding shifts. Every surface and structure in this yard played a part in the plant’s tightly coordinated daily rhythm.

From the field notes

This wide concrete yard once pulsed with daily movement, now overtaken by silence and scattered debris.
