Smoke pours from a tall stack and drifts south across the steelworks skyline. Late afternoon light catches the haze low between buildings, turning the air amber. Conveyors angle down toward the waterfront. Blast furnace structures, coke ovens, and smaller chimneys crowd the harbour edge. The water of Port Kembla harbour sits flat and bright in the foreground. The Illawarra escarpment holds the horizon behind everything.
