About this print
The crib room at Elrington Colliery sits inside the main workshop and administration building near Abernethy, NSW. Men working the Main Greta Seam at 363 metres below surface came up here to eat. At its peak in the 1940s, approximately 275 workers laboured underground at this BHP-owned mine, which operated from 1930 until December 1962. The crib room was one of the few places on site where the underground workforce could briefly surface before heading back down.
