Blayney Rainbow

A full arc of rainbow lifts from left to right across the sky above paddocks west of Blayney, both ends anchored at the horizon line. Post-storm light catches a pale strip of grass in the mid-ground while a cluster of farm buildings and trees sits quietly to the right beneath the arc's peak. Blue sky holds sharp and clear overhead, softening toward cloud at the edges. The ground is still wet from the shower.

Brett made this frame just after midday on 9 May 2020, on the Nikon D850, in the grazing country of the New South Wales Central West. It was taken at the same coordinates as the moonrise he photographed there the previous evening, which is the ordinary way a touring frame happens: you stay put and the weather changes around you. The Landscapes collection covers his wider travel photography across Australia and Japan rather than the abandoned-places work the Lost Collective is built on. No documented history attaches to this paddock and none is needed. A complete bow with both ends down requires a specific set of conditions, and the photograph is a record of getting them.
