Woolla

Woolla is a hand-built timber-slab hut on a bend of the Deua River, in country south of Braidwood, NSW. Cattle still work the surrounding paddocks. Helena Davis (Nellie) took up the freehold title in 1910. The original huts were completed in 1927, when she moved in with her son Everid and daughter Neta. Vern was born at Woolla in 1928, Myrtle in 1930. The Davis family lived here in continuous occupation until 1990, when Neta died and Vern, struck with Parkinson's, was moved to a nursing home in Braidwood. Most of the inside of the hut is the way they left it. The current owner is preserving the property. It survived the 2020 NSW bushfires intact. The hut is old, not neglected. Brett photographed Woolla in 2022, on what was his final visit to the place.
