04 FROM THE FIELD NOTES

Weathered timber and corrugated iron form the rear wall of a low rural homestead. Two brick chimneys rise above a rusted roof, its iron sheets stained orange and brown. Windows sit empty. A galvanised water tank leans against the structure, half collapsed. Bare fruit trees press close to the building. Brambles and overgrown shrubs crowd the right side, thick enough to block any path. The grass is green and wet. The sky is flat grey, overcast, heavy with moisture.
