04 FROM THE FIELD NOTES

Corrugated iron walls lean slightly under a hip roof streaked with rust. The galvanised sheeting has faded to a dull grey-green, its surface pocked and weathered. A single narrow opening sits off-centre, the timber frame dark and bare. One iron panel buckles outward near the corner. Tussock grass crowds the foreground, thick and wet. Bare fruit trees press close to the walls, their branches tangled with new spring growth. The sky is flat, overcast, heavy with moisture.
