About this print
From above, the roof of the Big Hill Post Office tells the whole story without needing a single interior shot. Corrugated iron, heavily rusted, with broken skylights that now let in rain and light equally. The building opened as a post office on 1 November 1869 and ran until 1945, seventy-six years of mail through one small kiosk window. What remains is a timber-framed residence slowly being reclaimed, its roof the first line of surrender to the elements.
