Behind the curved glass wall of ANSTO HIFAR’s containment building was the auxiliary plant room, a vital space housing compressors, pumps, chillers, and other essential systems that supported reactor operations. This infrastructure ensured precise environmental control and mechanical reliability throughout the facility’s lifespan.
To the right, the brick building, constructed in the 1990s, supplied power to the facility through a designated cable penetration point, further reinforcing the site’s critical energy management systems. Access to the roof was primarily for maintenance, such as replacing lights, and today, the exterior remains in use for working-at-heights training.
Offering a rare glimpse into the architectural and industrial history of Australian nuclear research, this scientific heritage art print is perfect for those fascinated by infrastructure and engineering design.
