Car 3708, part of the Sputnik set built in 1955, now stands fully restored within the Eveleigh Paint Shop. Though it ended service in 1957, it has been carefully brought back to life by a dedicated team of railway aficionados, former rail workers, engineers, and retired rail staff. Individuals whose passion for the industry never faded.
The green vinyl seats, still bearing the Public Transport Commission insignia, are a reminder of an era when rail travel was built to last. The timber-framed windows and venetian blinds, frozen in place from their last adjustment, add to the atmosphere, while the worn floorboards hold the imprints of countless commuters.
Once a vital part of Sydney’s suburban network, this carriage is no longer bound for daily service, but thanks to the dedication of those who refuse to let these trains be forgotten, it remains on the rails, ready to share its story.
