A blue lead apron lies across the X-ray examination table, still draped as though between patients. The overhead tube head hangs from its ceiling mount at an angle. Mould blackens the walls from floor to ceiling. Rust bleeds down the radiator beneath a boarded window where a thin line of daylight cuts through. Plaster and debris cover the floor, burying the metal tracks the machine table once rolled along. The air in here is damp. Heavy. Kuwashima Hospital operated as a small regional medical facility in rural Japan before closing permanently. By 2016, the building had stood empty for years, its interior given over to moisture and structural collapse.
