Lost Collective: A Journey Through Abandoned Spaces

Over the years, Lost Collective has evolved from a passion project into an internationally recognised archive of abandoned and forgotten spaces. My journey, from a tradesman to a full-time photographer, has been marked by encounters with extraordinary locations and the stories of the people who once inhabited them.

My photo essay in The Guardian was a pivotal moment in this journey, offering a glimpse into the industrial relics scattered across Sydney and beyond. These images, once hidden from public view, now serve as a visual history of the structures that shaped entire communities.

The Kandos Cement Works: A Farewell

One of the most poignant moments captured through Lost Collective was the final day of operations at the Kandos Cement Works. These workers, who had dedicated decades of their lives to the plant, gathered to mark the end of an era.

Capturing Industrial Heritage

Through Lost Collective, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph industrial landmarks that once powered entire communities. One such place is Wangi Power Station, a site that played a pivotal role in New South Wales’ electricity supply.

From Tradesman to Photographer

My career started in an entirely different world—working on heavy machinery in a North Queensland workshop. But it was my exposure to these massive industrial spaces that led to my fascination with abandoned sites. Eventually, photography became more than a hobby; it became a full-time pursuit.

What’s Next?

As I continue to explore Australia’s industrial heritage, my work at ANSTO as a social media coordinator has provided a unique intersection between my two worlds. Currently, I’m documenting the decommissioning of Australia’s first nuclear reactor. If you’re interested in seeing more, follow ANSTO and stay updated on this historic process.
