The building also served as a home for the postmaster, typical in rural areas back in these days.

Evidence of the owner's passion for ornamental sheet metal work can also be seen in the roofline and chimneys.

The post office continued to operate as such by the same family until around 1945.
Around this time, fewer people lived in the area due to farm amalgamations, and transport to larger nearby towns became less onerous, so the need for a post office in the area ceased.

The building continued to be used as a part-time residence over the years since the mail stopped being delivered. However, at some point a couple of decades ago, I guess the upkeep passed the point where it was still a viable option for a residence aside from the wombats who have burrowed underneath.

Since then, the residence has been left to the elements. Its condition has deteriorated to what you can see in the photos today and will probably continue to do so until nothing is left for the termites to eat.
