Macquarie Boys Technology High: A Forgotten School
The Daily Mail featured images from the Lost Collective Macquarie Boys Technology High gallery, shedding light on the school’s haunting state of decay.
A School Beyond Saving
When this gallery was first published, there were calls to restore the school. However, the photos speak for themselves—Macquarie Boys Technology High has deteriorated beyond the point of reuse. The land could undoubtedly be put to better use.
The Aftermath of Closure
Since closing in 2009 due to declining enrolments, the school has suffered extensive damage. In 2016, an arson attack completely destroyed the school hall, leaving the property in an even worse state.
It raises the question: why does public land sit abandoned for years, falling into complete disrepair, instead of being repurposed or redeveloped?
No Heritage Protection, No Future
Unlike heritage-listed buildings, Macquarie Boys Technology High holds no official historical significance. It wouldn’t be surprising to see it deteriorate even further over the next decade.
A Haunting Sight for Former Students
When these photos were shared on the Lost Collective Facebook page, many former students were shocked to see their school in such a state.
Can you imagine revisiting the place where you spent your childhood, only to find it decayed and forgotten?

But the amount of damage done to the school in the past seven years makes it seem as if the property has been unused for much longer.
